Spectrum Vascular Acquires Piccolo Medical to Advance Catheter Navigation Technology
Spectrum Vascular has acquired Piccolo Medical, a developer of catheter guidance and tip confirmation technologies, to accelerate the commercialization of next-generation vascular access solutions.
The acquisition expands Spectrum’s vascular access portfolio with Piccolo’s real-time catheter navigation technology, which uses proprietary blood-flow sensing to guide catheter tip placement and reduce the need for confirmatory chest X-rays. Piccolo recently completed the first patient placements using its next-generation Nav+ Stylet system.
As part of the transaction, Piccolo CEO Augustus Shanahan and the company’s team will join Spectrum Vascular to support the continued development and commercialization of its 510(k)-cleared catheter guidance products. The companies plan to integrate the technology with Spectrum’s existing vascular access portfolio and expand market adoption.
Kenneth Miller, CEO of Spectrum Vascular, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s mission to transform vascular access by combining innovative navigation technology with Spectrum’s commercial reach and product portfolio. Augustus Shanahan noted that the partnership provides the platform and scale needed to advance catheter guidance technology and improve outcomes for patients and healthcare providers.
