Siemens Healthineers has unveiled the MAGNETOM Freesurfer, a 3T MRI system featuring built-in AI algorithms that automatically segment brain structures, reducing radiologist workload by up to 40% in neurological assessments.
Siemens Healthineers has announced the commercial launch of the MAGNETOM Freesurfer 3T MRI, a groundbreaking imaging platform that integrates deep learning-powered brain segmentation directly into the scanner workflow.
The system utilises a proprietary neural network trained on over 2 million brain MRI scans to automatically delineate 68 cortical and subcortical structures in under 6 minutes — a process that previously required specialist software and hours of manual review.
Key Clinical Advantages
- Automated hippocampal volumetry for early Alzheimer's detection
- White matter lesion mapping for MS monitoring
- Integrated BioMatrix personalisation technology
- Ultra-high-gradient performance: 80 mT/m amplitude
The platform is CE-marked and FDA 510(k)-cleared, with installations already underway at leading academic centres in Germany, the US and Japan.
We are fundamentally changing how neurological diseases are diagnosed at scale. The MAGNETOM Freesurfer brings research-grade brain analytics to routine clinical practice. — Dr. Bernd Montag, CEO Siemens Healthineers
The system is targeted at hospitals performing more than 5,000 MRI scans annually, with pricing starting at €2.4 million including AI software licensing.
